I am inspired by the work and lives of educators such as Paulo Freire, bell hooks, Gloria Anzaldua, among others, who sought to transform the world through political conscientization.
I believe that personal transformation is key to collective transformation, and as such, I build spaces where socioemotional growth is valued. This means developing relational accountability that breaks us out of Western individualism to care for all beings including land, water, and non-human relatives. Ultimately, I believe that the function of education is liberation, and so, I strive to create spaces where we can practice being free and being good relatives.
Workshops
Radical Self-Love as Decolonial Praxis is a series of workshops I developed based on the idea that personal transformation is key to collective transformation and liberation. These workshops are heavily inspired by the lives and works of Black feminist thinkers such as bell hooks, Sonya Renee Taylor, adrienne maree brown, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Audre Lorde, and Tricia Hersey. And of indigenous scholars such as Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Shawn Wilson, Kim Tallbear, and Robin Wall Kimmerer. And Mexican indigenous practitioners like Sylvia Ledesma, Patricia Gonzales, and the Kalpulli Izkalli, Miguel Ruiz and his family, and Sergio Magaña.
I tailor these workshops based on your or your organization’s needs. Contact me if you are interested in discussing more!
